Breathtaking action and fascinating stories end German-American Friendship Month 2008

Tuesday, September 30 marked the end of this year's Friendship Month with a showing of Award-winning director Pepe Danquart's latest movie "To the Limit" at Tribeca Cinemas.

Lars Halter and Pepe DanquartThe movie "To the Limit" tells the story about the Huber brothers from Bavaria, two of the world's best rock climbers, and their attempt to beat the speed climbing record at "The Nose" in Yosemite National Park. "The Nose", also known as "El Capitan" is a granite wall of 1000 vertical meters and one of the most difficult routes in the world. Experienced climbers need between four and five days to make their way up. The Huber brothers wanted to do it in less than 2 hours and 48 minutes.

The movie not only focused on speed climbing but also a human aspect with the brothers attempts to answer the question of why they risk their lives over and over again. Danquart arranged these endeavours into a lesson for everybody - even though something might seem impossible at first it often turns out to be possible but requires effort, pain, stamina, and to face your fears in order to reach a goal.

An audience of fellow climbers was taken in by the speed the brothers Huber climbed the vertical wall along with breathtaking cinematography. Many used the opportunity to ask Danquart about filming the movie. He explained how he got the equipment into the wall, his concerns about the security of the crew and the problems he ran into. The director also spoke about his fortunate meeting of Chongo, a legendary homeless climber living in Yosemite Valley. Chongo went on to give the movie its beginning and an end.

The movie is available on DVD from amazon.com and also comes in an extended version with a "Making of". The screening was in part sponsored by German television station "Deutsche Welle".
