STEUBEN PARADE IS READY TO MARCH
ONLY FIVE DAYS TO GO UNTIL PARADE WEEKEND

With only a few days to go until the biggest German-American weekend of the season, the Steuben Parade with its thousands of marchers and over 25 floats is ready to march. For our 53rd event, the Committee is expecting 15 groups from Germany and Austria, several German-American groups from as far as California, Florida, and Chicago, IL. Plus: Thousands of marchers from our local clubs in the Greater New York area. The entire Line-Up is now available here.

German-Americans in the Greater New York area are heading into a big week. It starts with a visit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is in New York for the General Assembly of the United Nations and will host a reception for foreign dignitaries on Monday evening, and also welcoming members of the Steuben Parade Committee and other organizations; A few days later, Vice Chancellor Guido Westerwelle will be in town for more UN talks.

The Steuben Parade festivities begin on Friday at 11.30 AM with a Welcoming Ceremony for all visiting groups in Foley Square Park. This event is open to the Public and features many of the bands in the Steuben Parade performing live.

Friday night, Sept. 24, will see the elegant black-tie Gala Banquet at the New York Hilton & Towers starting at 7 PM. This year´s Grand Marshals, "Dr. Ruth" Westheimer and Dr. Michael Möller. CEO of the world-famous Hofbräuhaus in München/Germany, will attend the Gala Banquet, as will many VIP from the German-American community. Music by "The Jimmy Sturr Orchestra".

Steuben Parade day - Saturday, Sept. 25 - will start at 9.30 AM with a Mass at St. Patrick´s Cathedral held by Archbishop Timothy Dolan in German and English.

The Steuben Parade starts at 12 Noon on Fifth Avenue and 68th Street. Groups line up in their respective areas starting at 11 AM. For more information about a specific groups location in the marching order as well as assembly time and place, please consult our Line-Up Book.

After the Parade, all are invited to celebrate Oktoberfest in Central Park. Tickets for this event are almost sold out, only a few hundred tickets will be available at the gate. Enter the Park at East 72nd Street and walk towards the SummerStage area to join. This biggest Oktoberfest in New York City features music by Alpine Squeeze, entertainment by many of the music and dance groups from the Parade, a special performance by MELINA, who will perform her smash hit "I love German boys" and other songs, and the Finals of the Second Annual US Championship in Masskrugstemmen around 5 PM. The winner of this nationwide Bavarian strong-man contest will win a trip to Munich.

The weather forecast for the weekend is great with sunshine from Friday through Sunday and temperatures in the high 50s to high 70s. So, bring your friends and family and enjoy a great Steuben Parade weekend celebrating German-American heritage, history, tradition and friendship.
