CROWNING MISS GERMAN-AMERICA ON PIER 81

Tickets are now available for the Maifest and Crowning Ceremony

"I had a great year as Miss German-America," says Stephanie Russell-Kraft with royal smile. Born to a German mother and American father on the very day when then-President Reagan first declared a "German-American Day" for the United States, Stephanie represented the community for a year at numerous events, TV appearances and, of course, on her float in the Steuben Parade, flanked by her court. On May 21st, 2011, her reign is over and a new Miss German-America will be crowned.

"We have eight candidates running for Miss German-America," says Connie Rom, Chairwoman of the Court, who is excited about the upcoming event, where she will introduce each candidate to a five-member jury of seasoned volunteers of the German-American Committee. The jury´s verdict will count for two thirds of the total vote, with the audience vote making up the other third. The audience will meet each contestant on stage for a short interview and will be filling out ballots in support of their favorite contestant.

While the Crowning of Miss German-America, the Queen of the Annual German-American Steuben Parade, and her Princesses is the highlight of the event, which is held in cooperation with World Yacht, there is much more going on: NY favorite "Alpine Squeeze" will rock the tent on Pier 81, the Bavarian dancers of the Schlierachtaler Stamm will entertain, and there will be plenty of tasty German food and freshly tapped beer by Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr.

As a special treat, festival goers can partake in a one hour cruise up the Hudson River and enjoy fantastic views of George Washington Bridge and the West Side of Manhattan. The newly crowned Miss German-America and her court will be on board, as well.

Tickets for the Maifest and Crowning are now available online at maifest.eventbrite.com.

We are looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday, May 21st, 2011 at 12 Noon on Pier 81 (41st Street & 12th Avenue) in Manhattan.
