MAUREEN OGLE: AMBITIOUS BREW - THE STORY OF AMERICAN BEER
When a wave of German immigrants arrived in the middle of the nineteenth century, they re-created the pleasures of the biergartens they had left behind, and invented a new American-style lager beer. Fifty years later, beer was the nation's most popular beverage - and brewing was the nation's fifth-largest industry. Today there are well over a thousand breweries and brewpubs in the United States and there has never been a better time to explore the pleasures of fine beer.
Self-described "historian, author, ranter, and idea junkie", Maureen Ogle knows beer and it´s historic background. In her best-selling book, "Ambitious Brew - The Story of American Beer", she takes readers back to a time when America counted 4131 breweries. She presents the stories of the German brewers and the youngest crop of today´s micro breweries.
During German-American Friendship Month, Maureen Ogle will talk about her book and answer questions, while you can enjoy a selection of freshly tapped brews and some good German food.
