ACHIM HEUKEMES: COAST TO COAST AND BACK

In June, German extreme athlete Achim Heukemes began a unique cross-country trip: He rode his bike from New York City to San Diego, CA, averaging 150 miles a day, then turned around to run back to New York, averaging 65 miles per day - thatīs more than two marathons per day. At over 3,200 miles each way, his adventure presents one of the greatest feats in sports history.

However, it is not his first unbelievable race: Heukemes is one of the most successful athletes in the world with a venerable list of titles to his name. He is the 2006 World Champion in the "Deca-Ironman" that covers 24 miles swimming, 1120 miles biking and 262 miles running; he finished in 9 days 19 hours 34 minutes and 43 seconds. Heukemes has also proven himself in the 5,000 km "Race across Australia", the Badwater Ultra Race tackling 140 miles in over 110 degrees heat, the Yukon Arctic Race, the European race from the North Cape to Sicily and several 24- and 48-hour races.

Heukemes dedicated his latest project, "Coast to Coast and Back", to the victims of 9/11. At this exclusive events - the only one in the US - he will tell you his story.
