Steuben Bounce for the NYSE

Talk about the Steuben Bounce... for the third time, the German-American Committee of Greater New York had the honor of ringing the Opening Bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, September 5, in celebration of German-American Friendship Month and the upcoming Steuben Parade. "We are proud of our relationship with the NYSE," says Lars Halter, General Chairman of the Steuben Parade. That relationship started in 2009, when NYSE CEO Duncan Niederauer celebrated his own German roots by leading the Steuben Parade as a Grand Marshal. Niederauer, whose family hails from Bavaria, enjoyed the parade with all its music and dance groups and later even tapped the ceremonial first keg at the Oktoberfest in Central Park.

Ever since, the Committee has been invited back to the NYSE for the Opening Bell - a tradition that has paid off for the market, too. All three "Steuben Days" brought triple-digit gains for the Dow Jones. "Our track record as bell ringers all but guaranteed that we will be invited back next year," says Halter, who works on the Trading Floor as a reporter for German TV. This position allowed the Steuben Parade Committee to be featured on German news station n-tv immediately after the Opening Bell. Members and supporters of the Committee provided background and gave the Parade great exposure on TV.

This year´s Bell ringers included 2012 Steuben Parade Grand Marshal Norbert Schramm, Miss German-America Kirsten Mueller and Steuben Parade Princess Elise Wilkinson, joined by Parade host Laura Savini of WNET. Also on the legendary bell podium were German Deputy Consul General Oliver Schnakenberg, General Chairman Lars Halter, Vice Chairwoman Geraldine Brand with her father, Willi Brand, in his "Schützen" uniform, Parade Commentators Fred Hansen and Elaine Gehnich, Steuben Parade Treasurer Richard Rom, Line-Up Chairman Eric Hoffmann, Float Committee Co-Chairs Doris Neugebauer and Bob Radske, Cornflower Chairwoman Nicole Miskiewicz, PR Co-Chair Mike Rabus, New Jersey delegate Jens Riedel, and Dieter Pfisterer of Schützenpark and the Rheinische Sängerbund. Rich Adamonis, Sevior VP of Corporate Communications at the NYSE hosted the group.
