Congratulation to our new Miss German-America & Her Court 2013!

The German-American Steuben Parade Committee of NYC is proud to announce the selection of the new Miss German-America & Her Court 2013. Kristina Kren, a 24-year-old resident of Astoria, NY, and former Junior Princess of the Steuben Parade ten years earlier, is the new Miss German-America 2013! Come September 21st , Miss Kren, a graduate of Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, will be riding the German-American Steuben Parade “Queen’s Float” up Fifth Avenue, along with her court, which includes two princesses: Stefani Kraker of New York, NY and Kristin Newcomer, a resident of Andover, NJ. Miss Kraker is pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with Teaching and Bilingual Certification, while Miss Newcomer just graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers University. All three members of the court are fluent in German. They are perfect representatives of the rich German-American heritage and culture of New York.

This year’s pageant took place in a ceremony held at Hofbrau Bierhaus NYC in Manhattan, on Sunday afternoon, May 19. A packed house witnessed a pageant that included 5 contestants running for the title. The winner received a $3,000 scholarship, while each of the two princesses received a $1,000 scholarship. All members of the Court also received a gift bag from Tweezerman, the German specialist for beauty tools. The ladies were all interviewed by a panel of 6 judges, after which, the audience was introduced to each contestant and asked to cast a vote for the Queen!

Over one hundred people attended the pageant and ceremony, including the Parade’s General Chairman, Lars Halter. Also present was former German Ice Figure Skating World Champion, and former Parade Grand Marshal Norbert Schramm, originally from Bavaria, now living in Hoboken, NJ.

Aside from crowning Miss German-America, the Parade Committee introduced a Junior General and 2 Junior Princesses for 2013: William Geiger of Falls Church, VA is the Junior General vonSteuben, while his sister, Anna, is one of the two Junior Princesses. Claire Popolizio of Croton-On-Hudson, NY is the other Junior Princess.

Departing 2012 Queen, Kirsten Mueller remembers: “Promoting the German American culture, language and friendship is extremely important to me. As Miss German America, it has been my honor to represent such a vibrant and passionate group, as are the German Americans."
